Auburn University Symphonic Band to perform Oct. 22

AUBURN – The Auburn University Department of Music and the Auburn University Bands will present the Auburn University Symphonic Band in concert on Thursday, Oct. 22, at 7:30 p.m. at the Opelika Performing Arts Center at Opelika High School.

The Symphonic Band will feature two faculty soloists, Ann Knipschild on oboe and William Shaffer on horn, both members of the Auburn University Department of Music faculty.

Featured works and composers include “Jericho Rhapsody” by Morton Gould, “Caccia and Chorale” by Clifton Williams and “Fantasy Variations on a Theme by Niccolo Paganini” by James Barnes, which features every section in the ensemble.

The Auburn University Symphonic Band is the premier wind and percussion ensemble of the Auburn University Department of Music. Students have to successfully pass an audition every semester to be eligible for membership. The ensemble is conducted by Richard Good, director of bands and professor of music. All concerts are free and open to the public.
