AUBURN – Auburn University’s Jule Collins Smith Museum Director Marilyn Laufer has announced the appointment of Andy Tennant as assistant director of the museum.

Tennant has served as museum services manager since 2003, coordinating membership and visitor activities, excursions, volunteers and special events. For eight years prior to his moving to Auburn, he worked for the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington, D.C. In his new role, Tennant will join the senior administrative team in the role of monitoring and overseeing the financial, human resources and general operations of the museum.

Originally from Jackson, Miss., Tennant received a bachelor’s degree in fine art from Tulane University in New Orleans and a master’s degree in arts management from American University in Washington, D.C. He lives in Auburn with his wife and two children.

“There were 80 candidates for this position, which made the selection process difficult,” said Laufer. “We are pleased that Andy was eager and willing to step up to this position, as his experience with this museum, his conscientiousness for detail and enthusiasm for what we do here make him a great choice. The staff, advisory board and I look forward to working with him in this new capacity.”
