AUBURN – The Auburn University Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble will perform in concert Thursday, at 7:30 p.m. in the Opelika Performing Arts Center auditorium.
The Symphonic Band, a select group of 65 musicians, is the premier performing organization in the Auburn University Band program.
The evening’s performance, under the baton of Rick Good, Director of Bands and Associate Professor of Music at Auburn, will include both contemporary and traditional works from composers such as Elga, Reed, Persichetti, Catel and Hanson.
The program will open with Alfred Reed’s “A Celebration Fanfare.” Other works in the concert include Reed’s “Serenade,” performed by the Wind Ensemble and featuring clarinet soloist Courtney White and Howard Hanson’s “Chorale and Alleluia.” The concert will conclude with Vincent Persichetti’s “Psalm for Band, Op. 53.” Persichetti described his music as “having a combination of ‘grit’ and ‘grazioso.’”
