Luis Benetti to offer Latin percussion workshop at AU

AUBURN – Afro Cuban musician Luis Benetti will conduct a Latin percussion workshop Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at AU’s Goodwin Music Hall. Participants will learn conga and other Latin percussion techniques through an interactive seminar.

A native of Puerto Rico, Benetti has performed and conducted workshops since 1987. His musical performances include appearances at the National Black Arts Festival in Atlanta, the Monterey Jazz Festival and the Reno Jazz Festival. His seminars include Latin American Percussion Clinic, The Latin Jazz Project, Making and Playing the Shekere and the History of Development of Afro Cuban Folklore.

The workshop is open to the public and is made possible by the Department of Music in the College of Liberal Arts, the Caroline Marshall Draughon Center for the Arts and Humanities in the College of Liberal Arts, the Center for Multicultural Events, Latin Percussion and the AU Percussion Studio.
