AUBURN – The 2011 National Guard FLW College Fishing National Championship, in which Auburn University’s bass fishing team of Shaye Baker, of Reeltown, and Jordan Lee, of Cullman, took third place, will air on the Versus television network, Sunday, May 15, at noon Central time. The tournament was held April 7-9 on Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley near Paducah, Ky.
Baker and Lee’s total catch of 36 pounds 3 ounces, which was less than 2 pounds out of second place, earned $10,000 in prize money for Auburn University’s general scholarship fund and the Bass Sports Club. The University of Florida captured first place.
“We had a good run and we gave it all we could,” Lee said. “It was a great experience and hopefully Auburn will be back next year.”
FLW Outdoors is the largest fishing tournament organization in the world and it has awarded more than $1.8 million in scholarship money to more than 100 colleges and universities. Auburn University’s Bass Sports Club began in 2007 and is open to all Auburn students. More information is available at www.auburn.edu/bass.
