Auburn’s hospitality program draws major companies for annual career fair Nov. 8

AUBURN UNIVERSITY – More than 25 companies representing the hotel, restaurant and tourism industries will attend the 24th annual Hospitality Career and Internship Fair Thursday, Nov. 8, at The Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center.

“This is an opportunity for our students interested in careers in hotel, restaurant and tourism to meet industry representatives,” said David Martin, an assistant professor in the Department of Nutrition, Dietetics and Hospitality Management in Auburn University’s College of Human Sciences.

Companies attending include Capella Hotel Group, Hyatt Regency Atlanta, Inverness Country Club, Marriott Birmingham, The Ritz-Carlton-Atlanta and J. Alexander’s.

Students in the department nearing graduation will use the fair to set up employment interviews later in the day, while Martin suggests younger students start making contacts with industry representatives for future employment and maybe even arrange an internship, which is now required by the department.

“When it comes to recruiting, many of these companies will only visit programs with large numbers of students,” said Martin. “Considering we only have around 200 students currently, having this many companies come and spend their time and money recruiting our students speaks volumes to the quality of our graduates and of the reputation of our program.”

He added that about half of the companies at this year’s fair have employed or are currently employing Auburn alumni.
