AUBURN UNIVERSITY – The Auburn University Radio Flyer Theatre in the College of Liberal Arts will be featured on Troy University Public Radio throughout the month of December.

The group’s production of O. Henry’s “The Gift of the Magi” will air on Community Focus on Tuesday, Dec. 18, at noon. A special one-hour broadcast of five more stories from the group’s repertoire including Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Elves and the Shoemaker,” “The Little Match Girl” and “The Emperor’s New Clothes,” along with O. Henry’s “A Service of Love” and “The Green Door,” will air Friday, Dec. 21, at 9 p.m. and Monday, Dec. 24, at noon.

Since 2009, Auburn University Theatre has created productions in the style of the Golden Age of Radio featuring the Radio Flyer Theatre Company. Under the direction of Dan LaRocque, Radio Flyer Theatre adapts beloved classics for all audiences, often with a seasonal theme.

In October, the company brought a production to a live audience for the first time. O. Henry’s “A Service of Love” and “The Green Door” were performed at the Auburn Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, featuring the voice talents of Department of Theatre students Carrie Daniel, Jordan Lunstead, Garrett Keller, Alain King and AnnaClaire Walker and faculty members Daydrie Hague and Christopher Qualls with piano accompaniment by faculty member Adrienne Wilson. The production was directed by LaRocque with audio engineering and production by Kelly Walker.

The company returned to one of its earliest productions in a new performance of O. Henry’s “The Gift of the Magi,” presenting it to a live audience at the Opelika Cultural Center sponsored by the East Alabama Arts Association. The performance was recorded and will be broadcast on Community Focus.
