Auburn Alumni Association to hold annual Chili Cook-off Oct. 11

AUBURN – The Auburn Alumni Association will hold will its third annual Spicy Chili Cook-off competition Oct. 11 at the association’s hospitality tent prior to the Auburn vs. Arkansas game.

Life members of the association will judge the cook-off as three local restaurants, Panera Bread, Santa Fe Cattle Co. and Amsterdam Café, compete for the top prize.

The hospitality tent is located in front of the Wallace Center at 210 South Donahue Drive on the Auburn University campus. Hours are 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

“Contestants are vying for a trophy and some recognition as an alumni association partner,” said Debbie Shaw, Auburn University vice president for alumni affairs and executive director of the Auburn Alumni Association. “But mostly these businesses are helping us honor alumni who have made a lifetime commitment to support the association’s events, programs and scholarships.”

Of the 2,000 spectators that usually attend the alumni hospitality tent prior to Auburn’s home football games, about half are association life members. Guests can enjoy music, concessions, giveaways and appearances by Aubie, the Auburn cheerleaders and the university marching band. Admission to the tent is free for all association members. Members may bring one adult guest for $5. Children under 4 are free; children ages 4-12 are $5 each; all other visitors pay $10. For association membership information, see www.aualum.org.

The Auburn Alumni Association is a nonprofit organization designed to support the allegiance between Auburn University and its graduates and friends. The group has more than 45,000 dues-paying members. Almost 200,000 Auburn alumni live throughout the world.
