AUBURN – Alabama artists will be featured in the juried exhibition, “Drawing on Alabama 2009, ” sponsored by the Department of Art in the College of Liberal Arts at Auburn University.
The competitive exhibition will be juried by Maura Lynch, curatorial assistant, Department of Drawings, Museum of Modern Art, New York.
“With generous support by a grant from the Alabama State Council on The Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts we have been able to involve an objective and distinguished juror for this project,” said Barb Bondy, Auburn University department of art exhibitions and lectures coordinator.
“Drawing on Alabama 2009” is open to all artists 18 and over who are currently living in Alabama. Artists have until Nov. 7 to submit up to three entries of works that have been completed in the last two years.
“Artists selected for “Drawing on Alabama 2009″ will have their work exhibited in two consecutive exhibitions in Space 301 in Mobile, Ala.,” said Bondy.
“Viewers were very impressed with the high caliber of art in the 2007 exhibition and we want to provide others with the opportunity to see the work.”
The jurying process and exhibition installation for “Drawing on Alabama” will take place before the end of December. The first exhibition will open to the public on Monday, Jan. 7, in Biggin Gallery, 101 Biggin Hall and will run through Feb. 20. An opening reception with the juror in attendance will be held Friday, Jan. 16, in Biggin Hall. The second exhibition, at Space 301 gallery in Mobile, will open with a reception March 13 and run through May 3.
