Delta Apparel head coming to Auburn for public lecture on apparel industry

AUBURN UNIVERSITY – Bob Humphreys, chairman, CEO and president of Delta Apparel Inc., will give an address on “The Global Apparel Industry – Challenges for U.S. Companies” at 9 a.m., Friday, Feb. 21, in Ballroom A of The Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center. The talk is free and open to the public.

Humphreys is being invited to campus Feb. 20-21 as the spring 2014 Department of Consumer and Design Sciences executive-in-residence. He is scheduled to visit with administrators in the College of Human Sciences, faculty and graduate students in the department, and undergraduate students studying apparel merchandising, design and production management.

“Our students are graduating into a global economy and it is critically important that they understand the opportunities and challenges which will be awaiting them,” said Carol Warfield, head of the Department of Consumer and Design Sciences. “Bob Humphreys brings a world of experience and insight to share with our students. It is a rare privilege to have him on campus.”

Delta Apparel specializes in the design, merchandising, sales and marketing of a variety of casual and athletic apparel brands, including Salt Life, The Game, Soffe and The Cotton Exchange. Humphreys has served as president and CEO since 1999 and chairman of the board of directors since 2009. He has more than 25 years of experience in the textile and apparel industry, including senior leadership roles in operations and finance. Under his leadership, Delta Apparel has grown from a catalog T-shirt company to a diverse activewear apparel company.
