AUBURN – Auburn University and its partners in the Alabama Community Healthy Marriage Initiative will present this year’s regional conference on Tuesday, Feb. 3, through Thursday, Feb. 5, at the Montgomery River Walk Renaissance Hotel and Conference Center.
The 2009 Regional Healthy Marriages, Healthy Families and Responsible Fatherhood Conference on Best Practices is open both to professionals and to citizens interested in learning about ways to build and sustain healthy relationships and stable marriages. Workshops will cover a wide variety of subjects including marriage, youth, parenting, fatherhood, faith-based and community organizational development and health and wellness.
Alabama First Lady Patsy Riley and Auburn University College of Human Sciences Dean June Henton will present opening remarks on Tuesday, Feb. 3.
The conference will feature a luncheon with nationally-known humorist and Auburn graduate Jeanne Robertson on Wednesday and will feature internationally-known public speaker Gene Griessman, in the persona of Abe Lincoln, in the closing session on Thursday, Feb. 5.
Throughout the conference, regional and national experts will provide current research and practical tools to help participants strengthen families in their communities.
The conference is a collaborative effort of the Alabama Community Healthy Marriage Initiative; Auburn University’s Department of Human Development and Family Studies; the Alabama Children’s Trust Fund; the Alabama Department of Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention; the Alabama Departments of Human Resources, Public Health and Education; the Governor’s Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives; the National Stepfamily Resource Center; and Region 4 of the Administration for Children and Families.
Continuing education units will be awarded for attendees in the fields of counseling, social work and registered nursing and for attendees from Auburn University.
