AUBURN - Auburn University's Bass Sports Club will host its third annual Auburn University Fall Classic this Friday and Saturday, Nov. 20-21, on Lake Logan-Martin near Pell City.

Collegiate teams from across the southeastern United States will be participating in the event, which will have weigh-ins at Lakeside Landing and Resort at 3 p.m. Friday and at 2 p.m. Saturday. Confirmed participating teams include Auburn, Alabama, Bethel College, Georgia, North Alabama, Northwest Alabama Community College, UAB, Radford and Virginia Tech. There are 18 unconfirmed schools anticipated to participate as well.

AUBURN – Auburn University is hosting the championship of the 2009 Southern Collegiate Bass Fishing Series on Wilson Lake near Florence, Ala., Friday and Saturday, April 17-18. More than 100 anglers representing 20 universities are expected to compete from schools such as Auburn, Alabama, Alabama-Birmingham, North Alabama, Montevallo, Tennessee, Georgia and Virginia Tech.

"This series has drawn attention nationwide since it is one of the largest collegiate tournament series being run at the present time," said Auburn academic advisor Jann Swaim.

More than 100 anglers are expected to compete from schools such as Auburn, Alabama, North Alabama, UAB, Montevallo, Tennessee, Georgia, Virginia and Mississippi.

AUBURN - The Auburn Alumni Association’s pre-game hospitality tent will be open at a new location for Auburn alumni and football fans. Relocated to the lawn of Auburn’s Wallace Center at 210 South Donahue Dr., the tent will be open Aug. 30 from 3 p.m.-5:30 p.m. CDT. Kickoff is at 6 p.m. for Saturday’s opening game in Jordan-Hare Stadium against the University of Louisiana at Monroe.

The alumni hospitality tent will have food, a band, a big-screen TV, giveaways, children’s face-painting, appearances by Auburn’s mascot, Aubie, and the university marching band.

AUBURN - The Auburn University student chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers placed second overall in competition at the recent ASCE Southeast Student Conference in Orlando, Fla.

The 24-member ASCE chapter from AU’s Samuel Ginn College of Engineering made a strong showing against the overall first place winners from the University of Florida and its chapter of 105 members.

AUBURN - Auburn University students who enjoy fishing in their spare time now have a new sports club to match their angling skills against other schools.

The AU Bass Sports Club, which hosted its first tournament last fall on Lake Guntersville, is hosting three spring tournaments and a championship on north Alabama lakes.

Bass fishing clubs began about 10 years ago in the Big 10 schools up north,” said academic advisor Jann Swaim. “It’s now catching on as a club sport across the country. Outdoor sports such as fishing and hunting need to be promoted, because many kids don’t spend time outside or don’t have the opportunity.”
