AUBURN - The 2012 Southern Collegiate Bass Fishing Series, hosted by Auburn University, will begin Nov. 18-19 on Logan Martin Lake near Pell City.

More than 150 anglers representing 25 universities across the southeastern United States are expected to compete this season on lakes throughout north Alabama. The series will decide the 2012 Southern Collegiate Bass Fishing Series title and determine the universities that will be represented at the 2012 Southern Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship. A sample of participating schools includes Auburn, Alabama, North Alabama, Mississippi State, Georgia and Ole Miss.

AUBURN - The Auburn University BASS Club will compete in the Iron Bowl fishing tournament against the University of Alabama on Sunday, July 31 on Lake Jordan. The tournament will coincide with the B.A.S.S. Bassmaster Elite Series in Montgomery, Ala.

The boats will launch at 6 a.m. from Bonner's landing and check in will be at 3 p.m. followed by the weigh in at 4:30 p.m., just prior to the Bassmaster Elite weigh in at 5 p.m. The weigh in will take place at the Montgomery Riverfront main stage. The weigh in is open to the public.

Jann SwaimAUBURN - Jann Swaim, adviser to the Auburn University Bass Sports Club, has been named American Outdoor Sportsman of the Year by the Legends of the Outdoors organization. He will receive the award Aug. 14 at the group's National Hall of Fame banquet in Nashville, which honors those who have blazed trails in the outdoor world and have set standards in their respective field.

Swaim, who retired in 2010 after 27 years of work with Auburn University, helped found the fishing club in 2007, after seeing a need for a competition outlet for interested students.

"The kids came to me and wanted a club patterned after collegiate sports," Swaim said. "Using the collegiate format has allowed us to create a base in which to begin the process of learning team concepts and applications."

AUBURN - The 2011 National Guard FLW College Fishing National Championship, in which Auburn University's bass fishing team of Shaye Baker, of Reeltown, and Jordan Lee, of Cullman, took third place, will air on the Versus television network, Sunday, May 15, at noon Central time. The tournament was held April 7-9 on Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley near Paducah, Ky.

Baker and Lee's total catch of 36 pounds 3 ounces, which was less than 2 pounds out of second place, earned $10,000 in prize money for Auburn University's general scholarship fund and the Bass Sports Club. The University of Florida captured first place.

AUBURN - The 2011 Southern Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship hosted by Auburn University will take place Friday and Saturday, April 15-16, on Pickwick Lake near Florence. Weigh-ins will be held at McFarland Park in Florence Friday at 3 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m. The public is invited to attend the weigh-ins and support the anglers.

More than 120 anglers representing 17 universities across the southeastern United States have qualified and are expected to compete. The schools include Auburn University, University of Alabama, University of North Alabama, Northwest-Shoals Community College, Mississippi State University, University of Tennessee, University of Georgia and University of Alabama at Birmingham.

AUBURN - Approximately 140 collegiate anglers are expected to fish on Lake Guntersville this Friday and Saturday, March 18-19, in the 2011 Southern Collegiate Bass Fishing Series tournament trail. The fishing series, hosting by Auburn University's Bass Sports Club, is open to all university-sponsored fishing teams throughout the Southeast and beyond.

Teams are scheduled to arrive Thursday for an official practice day and will launch out of Spring Creek beginning at safe light on Friday and Saturday. Weigh-ins will be held Friday at 3 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m. The public is invited to attend and support their favorite schools. A live broadcast of the weigh-ins will be available at www.auburn.edu/bass.

AUBURN – When Auburn's Marching Band members return from the holidays this week, they will immediately hit the practice field in preparation for their performance at the BCS National Championship game. The Auburn Tigers take on the Oregon Ducks Jan. 10 in Glendale, Ariz.

The band will have a rehearsal Friday afternoon in Auburn before heading to Arizona early Saturday morning. All 380 band members along with 30 faculty and staff will fly nonstop on two chartered jets from Montgomery to Phoenix. A few students were already on campus earlier this week to help load large instruments and equipment into a tractor-trailer for shipping to the game.

"All the band members are really excited," band member Katie Morgan said. "It's something we've been looking forward to all season. Early on we thought maybe it was a possibility and now it's a great way to end our year."

AUBURN - Auburn University's Bass Sports Club is tied for the nation's top spot among collegiate fishing teams in FLW Outdoors Magazine's January 2011 issue. The editors rank Auburn in a tie with the University of Florida for number one among its list of top 25 schools.

"This is a very nice honor for the club," Auburn advisor Jann Swaim said. "We have a very good group of dedicated students and we hope to maintain a high ranking throughout the year. The FLW tournaments provide great experiences for them."

AUBURN – Auburn University President and Mrs. Jay Gogue recently honored the university's Bass Sports Club at the President's Home in recognition of the club's contributions to the Auburn University Foundation.

Since January 2009 the club has presented $44,500 to Auburn from funds garnered in the National Guard FLW College Fishing Series. Teams that finish in the top five of each event are awarded funds which are distributed to the foundation for general scholarships and to the club for expenses.

AUBURN - Auburn University's Bass Sports Club will host its third annual Auburn University Fall Classic this Friday and Saturday, Nov. 20-21, on Lake Logan-Martin near Pell City.

Collegiate teams from across the southeastern United States will be participating in the event, which will have weigh-ins at Lakeside Landing and Resort at 3 p.m. Friday and at 2 p.m. Saturday. Confirmed participating teams include Auburn, Alabama, Bethel College, Georgia, North Alabama, Northwest Alabama Community College, UAB, Radford and Virginia Tech. There are 18 unconfirmed schools anticipated to participate as well.
