AUBURN – Auburn University received seven awards for its communications, marketing and alumni programs at the 2009 southeastern regional meeting of the Council for the Advancement and Support of Higher Education, or CASE, held Feb. 11 in Atlanta.
The Office of Communications and Marketing won a Grand Award, the highest honor, in the crisis management plans category for its Message Dissemination in a Crisis entry, an outline of Auburn’s new emergency communications plan and publications created in cooperation with the Office of Risk Safety and Management and the Department of Public Safety.
AUBURN – The Auburn Alumni Association will hold will its third annual Spicy Chili Cook-off competition Oct. 11 at the association’s hospitality tent prior to the Auburn vs. Arkansas game.
Life members of the association will judge the cook-off as three local restaurants, Panera Bread, Santa Fe Cattle Co. and Amsterdam Café, compete for the top prize.
The hospitality tent is located in front of the Wallace Center at 210 South Donahue Drive on the Auburn University campus. Hours are 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
AUBURN – Auburn University recently received a $100, 000 endowed gift from the James M. Cox Foundation in honor of Cynthia Tucker. A 1976 graduate of AU, Tucker was recognized with a Pulitzer Prize for Commentary in 2007 for “her courageous, clear-headed columns that evince a strong sense of morality and persuasive knowledge of the community.” She is currently the editorial page editor at The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
The endowment will provide scholarships for students in the journalism program in AU’s College of Liberal Arts. Known as the Cynthia Tucker ’76 Endowed Scholarship for Journalism Excellence, the gift strives to increase the level of diversity in the journalism program.
AUBURN – Minority alumni of Auburn University are invited to a special tailgate event hosted by the Auburn Alumni Association prior to the annual A-Day game on Saturday, March 29. The Minority Alumni Involvement Now, or MAIN, A-Day Tailgate is a spring event held each year to help reconnect minority alumni with Auburn and with each other.
The tailgate event will begin at 11 a.m., two hours before the A-Day Game kickoff, and will take place at the corner of Roosevelt Drive and Duncan Drive at the usual location of the alumni hospitality tent. To register, visit the Auburn Alumni Web site at http://www.aualum.org/main/main-tailgate.html. Tickets are $5 in advance and $10 at the door. There is no charge for children under 12.
