Auburn’s ‘Football, Fans and Feathers’ kicks off Sept. 2 for 2011 football season

AUBURN – The Southeastern Raptor Center will again host its annual birds-in-flight raptor programs on Fridays before Auburn University home football games. “Football, Fans and Feathers” kicks off Sept. 2 at 4 p.m. in the 350-seat Edgar B. Carter Educational Amphitheater on Raptor Road off Shug Jordan Parkway.

During “Football, Fans and Feathers,” visitors learn about the residents of the Southeastern Raptor Center. Hawks, falcons and eagles will be free-flown from flight towers allowing guests to see these raptors flying close.

Auburn University officials dedicate Miller Writing Center

AUBURN – Auburn University officials dedicated the John C. H. Miller Jr. Writing Center Sept. 24 in the Governor’s Room at The Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center.

Speakers included Jay Gogue, Auburn University president; Sarah Newton, Board of Trustees president pro tempore; Margaret Marshall, newly named director of university writing; Sharon Roberts, co-chair of the Writing Initiative Task Force; and Matt Klauza, assistant to the center director and a Ph.D. candidate in English.

Butler named senior fellow by Auburn University Center for Governmental Services

AUBURN – Auburn University’s Center for Governmental Services, a unit within University Outreach, has named John Sibley Butler as its 2008-09 Senior Fellow. The center’s program recognizes experienced practitioners, academicians and researchers for their significant contributions to excellence in government.

Requirements for senior fellow status include extensive experience, prominence and recognized contributions in public affairs. Butler is professor and administrator at the University of Texas at Austin. He holds the Gale Chair in Entrepreneurship and Small Business in the Graduate School of Business and the Herb Kelleher Chair in Entrepreneurship. He is the director of the Herb Kelleher Center for Entrepreneurship and the director of the Institute for Innovation and Creativity.

Auburn University to dedicate new Student Center Nov. 5

AUBURN – Auburn University will formally dedicate its new Student Center in a ceremony beginning at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 5.

A parade, with Dean Emeritus James Foy and Aubie serving as parade marshals, will kick off the day’s events. The parade will begin at 11 a.m. at James E. Foy Hall and end at the new Student Center. Parade participants will include student organizations, the Auburn University Cheerleaders and Tiger Paws, faculty, staff, students and friends of the university.
