Auburn awarding 1,150 degrees in ceremonies featuring one of the nation’s top military intelligence and cyber security experts

Lt. Gen. Ron BurgessAUBURN UNIVERSITY- Auburn University will award 1,150 academic degrees Aug. 2 in Auburn Arena during two summer graduation ceremonies featuring addresses by retired U.S. Army Lt. Gen. Ron Burgess, Auburn University’s senior counsel for national security programs, cyber programs and military affairs.

The 10 a.m. ceremony will include the colleges, schools and programs of Architecture, Design and Construction; Engineering; Interdisciplinary Studies; Liberal Arts; and Sciences and Mathematics. The 2 p.m. ceremony will be held for the colleges and schools of Agriculture; Business; Education; Forestry and Wildlife Sciences; Human Sciences; and Nursing. The ceremonies can be viewed live through the university’s website at www.auburn.edu/graduationlive.

Sculpted eagles placed in Samford Hall for graduation photos

AUBURN UNIVERSITY – The sculpted eagles from atop the gates in Samford Park at Toomer’s Corner have been placed in the Samford Hall lobby, so spring graduates can continue the tradition of taking photos with them.

The eagles are perched on two custom-made pedestals in front of an Auburn backdrop. They were taken down from the gates in March and stored on campus for safekeeping prior to the start of the redevelopment of the corner.

New graduates can take photos Friday, May 2, and Saturday, May 3, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

Architectural firm executive and Navy nursing commander to speak at Auburn University spring commencement

Michele KaneDon BrownAUBURN UNIVERSITY – An architectural firm executive and a Navy nursing commander will be guest speakers at Auburn University’s spring commencement ceremonies Saturday and Sunday, May 3-4, in Auburn Arena, where approximately 3,670 new graduates will receive diplomas.

Architect and retired Air Force Col. Don Brown will speak Saturday at a 10 a.m. ceremony for the colleges of Education, Human Sciences and Architecture, Design and Construction and a 2 p.m. ceremony for the colleges of Agriculture and Business and the Interdisciplinary Studies program.

Navy nursing Cmdr. Michele Kane will speak Sunday at a 1 p.m. ceremony for the College of Sciences and Mathematics and the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering and at a 5 p.m. ceremony for the College of Liberal Arts, School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences and School of Nursing.
