Auburn awarding 1,441 degrees at fall graduation

AUBURN UNIVERSITY – Auburn University will award 1,441 academic degrees during two fall graduation ceremonies Saturday, Dec. 8, in Auburn Arena.

The 10 a.m. ceremony will include the colleges, schools and programs of Architecture, Design and Construction; Engineering; Interdisciplinary Studies; Liberal Arts; Nursing; and Sciences and Mathematics. The 2 p.m. ceremony will be held for the colleges and schools of Agriculture; Business; Education; Forestry and Wildlife Sciences; and Human Sciences. The ceremonies can be viewed live through the university’s website at www.auburn.edu/graduationlive.

Leonard Bell, a professor of poultry science at Auburn, will present the charge to the graduates. In 2011, he was honored with the university’s highest teaching honor, the Gerald and Emily Leischuck Endowed Presidential Award for Excellence in Teaching.

Of the degrees Auburn will award, 1,145 are bachelor’s degrees, 230 are master’s degrees, 63 are doctorates and three are education specialist degrees.

The College of Liberal Arts will award the most bachelor’s degrees with 285, followed by the College of Business with 218. The College of Education and the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering each will present 151 degrees; College of Sciences and Mathematics, 109; College of Human Sciences, 80; College of Architecture, Design and Construction, 66; College of Agriculture, 52; Office of the Provost, 20 degrees in interdisciplinary studies; and School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences, 13.

Auburn University has awarded more than 250,000 degrees since its founding as East Alabama Male College in 1856.

Alabama Lt. Gov. Kay Ivey to address Auburn graduates Aug. 4

Kay IveyAUBURN UNIVERSITY – Alabama Lt. Gov. Kay Ivey will be the guest speaker during Auburn University’s two summer graduation ceremonies Saturday, Aug. 4, in Auburn Arena.

A 10 a.m. ceremony will include the colleges, schools and programs of Architecture, Design and Construction; Engineering; Forestry and Wildlife Sciences; Interdisciplinary Studies; Liberal Arts; Nursing; and Sciences and Mathematics. A 2 p.m. ceremony will be held for the colleges and schools of Agriculture; Business; Education; and Human Sciences. Both ceremonies can be viewed live through the university’s website at www.auburn.edu/graduationlive.

Ivey, a Camden, Ala., native and a 1967 graduate of Auburn University, was elected lieutenant governor in 2010. Previously, she was elected state treasurer in 2002 and 2006.

Auburn awarding 3,312 degrees in spring ceremonies featuring noted guest speakers

AUBURN – Auburn University will award 3,312 academic degrees May 6-8 in Auburn Arena during spring commencement ceremonies featuring talks by Auburn alumni and industry leaders.

The first ceremony on May 6 begins at 1 p.m. for the colleges of Agriculture; Architecture, Design and Construction; Education; and Human Sciences. Auburn alumnus Ron Baynes, NFL coordinator of recruiting and officiating development, will be the speaker. The second ceremony starts at 5 p.m. for the College of Business with Arthur Blank, owner of the Atlanta Falcons and co-founder of The Home Depot, serving as the speaker.

The morning ceremony on May 7 begins at 10 a.m. for the colleges and schools of Engineering; Forestry and Wildlife Sciences; Nursing; and Sciences and Mathematics. Auburn alumnus Kirby Bland, chair of the Department of Surgery at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, will be the speaker. A 2 p.m. ceremony will be held for the College of Liberal Arts with Auburn alumnus Javier Goizueta, vice president of The Coca-Cola Company, serving as the speaker.
