Contributors to Alabama agriculture to be honored at February Hall of Honor banquet

AUBURN – The Auburn University Agricultural Alumni Association will honor five distinguished Alabama agriculturists during its 2012 Hall of Honor banquet, Thursday, Feb. 23, at The Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center beginning at 6:15 p.m. Three of those honored will be inducted into the Hall of Honor and two will be honored posthumously.

The three inductees into theĀ  prestigious Hall of Honor will be Herman McElrath of Guntersville, the honoree in the agribusiness sector; Rudy Schmittou of Auburn, from the education and government sector; and Ben Bowden of Eufaula, representing the production agriculture sector. The Hall of Honor recognizes living Alabamians who have made significant contributions to agriculture in the state.

Auburn to host Newspaper Hall of Honor Jan. 21

AUBURN – Two journalists respected for their many years of service and dedication to communities as newspaper publishers will be inducted into the Alabama Newspaper Hall of Honor Saturday, Jan. 21, at 10 a.m. in the Alabama Newspaper Hall of Honor Room in the Ralph Brown Draughon Library at Auburn University.

R. Douglas Pearson Jr., who was the editor and publisher of The Daily Mountain Eagle, and Lancie M. Thomas, co-founder and publisher of The Mobile Beacon, The Alabama Citizen and The Selma Citizen, will be the 110th and 111th journalists inducted posthumously by the Alabama Press Association since the Alabama Newspaper Hall of Honor was established in 1959.

Auburn University to host Newspaper Hall of Honor Oct. 2

AUBURN – Three journalists, all respected for their many years of service and dedication to communities as newspaper publishers, will be inducted into the Alabama Newspaper Hall of Honor on Oct. 2.

Karl Elebash Jr., who was the owner, editor and publisher of The Graphic in Tuscaloosa, and Ben and Libba George, owner and editor of the The Demopolis Times, will be the 107th, 108th and 109th journalists inducted posthumously by the Alabama Press Association since the Alabama Newspaper Hall of Honor was established in 1959.

The ceremony will be at 10 a.m. in the Alabama Newspaper Hall of Honor Room in the Ralph Brown Draughon Library at Auburn University.
