AUBURN – The Auburn University College of Education will host a community forum on education June 7 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Opelika Middle school.
This public forum will feature a screening of the award-winning documentary, “Heart of Stone” followed by small group discussions about the film and lessons learned about transforming schools. The documentary relays how students, teachers, community leaders and alumni worked to reclaim an inner-city high school in New Jersey that had deteriorated because of drug activity. “Heart of Stone’s” producer and director, Beth Kruvant, will be on hand to introduce her documentary.
– Auburn University Provost John Heilman announced today that Auburn professor George Flowers has been named dean of the Graduate School after a national search.
As dean, Flowers will supervise a staff of 13 charged with the admission, advisement and graduation activities for all graduate students. He also will chair the graduate council, which oversees graduate faculty credentialing, curriculum and program reviews.
“Great universities are known for the excellence of their graduate programs and Auburn University certainly deserves to be recognized as a great university,” said Flowers, who has served as interim dean with Joe Pittman since August 2006. “I look forward to working with all those involved with graduate education and research at Auburn University as together we seek to build truly outstanding graduate programs.”
