Auburn University students save close to $10,000 in water, energy costs in February Sustain-A-Bowl

AUBURN UNIVERSITY – More than 4,000 Auburn University students in 30 residence halls saved nearly $10,000 in water and electricity costs in this year’s Sustain-A-Bowl, Auburn’s annual resource reduction competition. The goal of the competition was for every residence hall to reduce both their electricity and water consumption by 10 percent.

Twenty-one of the 30 residence halls participating reached the electricity reduction goal, while 14 halls reached the water reduction goal. Overall winners for the competition included Leischuck Hall in the Hill, Broun Hall in the Quad and Aubie Hall in the Village. Dowell Hall in the Hill earned honorable mention for placing second overall and earning 93 percent of the possible points in the event portion of the competition.

Auburn University to hold annual Sustain-A-Bowl competition to encourage sustainable living in campus residence halls

AUBURN UNIVERSITY – Throughout the month of February, residents and Residence Life staff in 30 Auburn University residence halls will participate in the annual Sustain-A-Bowl competition, which challenges each hall to reduce energy and water usage by 10 percent.

The competition will engage more than 4,000 campus residents in activities and programs challenging them to live more sustainably by reducing utility costs and increasing recycling for the four-week period. Over the last four years, students have saved more than $36,000 through energy and water reductions. Organizers said the competition is not just about using less, but also about learning more.

Sustain-A-BowlAUBURN – Nearly 4,000 Auburn University students in 30 residence halls saved more than $12,000 in water and electricity costs in this year’s Sustain-A-Bowl, Auburn’s annual resource reduction competition. The goal of the competition was for each residence hall to reduce both its electricity and water consumption by 10 percent.

Twenty-three of the 30 residence halls participating reached the electricity reduction goal, while 22 halls reached the water reduction goal. Overall winners for the competition included Broun Hall in the Quad, Toomer Hall in the Hill and Tiger Hall in the Village.

Auburn University Office of Sustainability launching month-long Sustain-A-Bowl campaign

On Friday, Jan. 30, Auburn University’s Office of Sustainability will launch Sustain-A-Bowl, a month-long campaign to reduce water and electricity use and waste production around campus and in the community.

Each residence hall in the Hill and Quad will compete to be the building that reduces its resource use the most over the course of the month compared to its own three-year average.
